It’s the end of my mid semester
break. I would like to say that it was really an enjoyable break as I’ve rest
well and relaxed my mind from the busy routine which I encountered every day
since the beginning of the semester. As what people always say; short break is
for a longer journey. “The Kid from the Big Apple”. A recent movie that I had
watched and I would strongly recommend it to all the younger generations. This
film was entirely shot in Malaysia took home four awards in total for Best
Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Writing and Best Newcomers.
The film is all about Sarah, a
little girl who lives and is raised in New York. When she visits Malaysia for
the very first time, she finds her view on the world changing as she spends her
time with her deeply conservative grandfather, Gen. She also learns that
cultural tradition is the reason why her grandfather and her mother, Sophia,
have not seen each other since she was born.
Nowadays, elders see the younger
generations as eyesores because of their overly 'westernized' behavior and poor
moral's. Whilst the youngsters on the other hand, have no time for their
elders, who to them seem belong in a museum. Sadly, this is a growing global
phenomenon. It is the director's intent to tell this tale in a witty, comical
manner and in doing so, hoping that this little slice of life will touch the
audiences' heart.
